| FAQs What is the difference between a Legal Nurse Consultant and a Paralegal? The legal nurse consultant is an entirely different entity than a paralegal or legal assistant. Just as an MD brings his or her skills to the legal team in regard to medical issues, LNCs bring you specialized knowledge of the health care system, nursing, and even medicine. Who better than an experienced nurse to pick up on missing elements of the medical record? Paralegals have been trained in the legal aspects to do legal work. LNCs are nurses who bring their years of experience to the table to save you time and money by quickly finding things relevant to the medical and nursing aspects of the case. Can you serve as an expert witness in my case? Though nurses know what a doctor should do in many given situations, as with any other testifying expert, LNCs are limited to testifying to our areas of expertise, education and experience. This excludes the practice of medicine. We can locate appropriate expert witnesses for you -- both medical and nursing experts -- to testify to the issues of your case. We have access to extensive databases from which to find experts with the most current experience and educational qualifications. We can also perform extensive literature searches to assist you in finding the most up-to-date experts in the field related to your case. We use MDs to perform the majority of the services you offer. Why should we use you? MDs are effective in providing some of the same services as LNCs. However, hiring an LNC is more cost-effective, as much as 75 to 80 percent more cost-effective, specifically when organizing medical records or doing a MEDLINE search, enabling you to better allocate your MD resources to the cases that demand his or her attention. Let us do your initial screening and research. What are your fees? In regards to our fees, as each case is unique and the type of desired work product relative to the case is unique, we prefer to speak or meet with attorney-clients individually to discuss our fees. We provide a fee schedule on initial consultation and offer attractive discounts to referring attorneys. If for any reason you are not satisfied with our work product, simply notify us in writing within 10 days of receiving the product, and we will correct it to your satisfaction or give you a full refund. In addition to your resume, what qualifies you to do this type of work? I have been a registered nurse for more than 21 years. When employed in the hospital and home health settings, I critiqued patient care on a daily basis. As an employee at various levels in the hospital setting, I have a unique knowledge of the skills required at varying levels of care, from floor nursing to transitional unit nursing to critical care nursing. I have knowledge of the inner workings of hospitals. In my various staff positions, I have assisted other staff in development of nursing standards of care and hospital policies and procedures, while remaining at the patient bedside as a "hands-on" RN. As a Life and Health independent insurance agent, I have specific knowledge of the insurance industry, especially Medicare and the Long-Term Care industry. My teaching positions have given me unique experiences in communicating with patients, families and young people who are pursuing medical-related careers. My journalism experience has qualified me for this type of work with a unique ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and it also has enabled me to become skilled at completing projects within a specified period of time. My supervisory roles in nursing, teaching, journalism and business management have given me the unique ability to consult with others as needed to complete projects accurately and in a timely manner. |
