Nursing Experience Legal Nurse Consultant February 2002-present – Susquehanna Valley Medical-Legal Consulting. Currently consulting on medical-related cases for attorneys and insurance companies. Cases include personal injury, insurance defense, automobile accidents, delay in diagnosis, negligence, work accidents and slip and falls. Current clients include York, Reading, Lancaster and Harrisburg area law firms, among others. We perform case screening, case reviews, timeline/chronologies, medical literature searches, case opinion reports, IME/IVE coordination, development of questions for IME/IVE reports and expert witness location. We use software such as LegalMedware, TimeMap, Word, Excel and InDesign. We have access to thousands of medical articles and text excerpts via PubMed, MDConsult and our membership libraries. Health Occupations Educator September 1992 to June 1995 - York County Area Vocational-Technical School, York, PA. Duties included teaching high school students medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, nurse aide skills and clinical supervision of students in the healthcare setting. Home Health Nurse February 1992 to October 1992 - Visiting Nurse Association, York, PA. Duties included assessment and treatment of home health patients, direct supervision of home health aides, medical record documentation, proper Medicare coding for Medicare billing, and patient and family teaching regarding patient’s home care. ICU Nurse January 1991 to January 1992 – York Hospital, York, PA. Employed as a “float” ICU nurse in the Medical Intensive Care, Coronary Care and Surgical ICUs. Duties included assessment and care of critical cardiac, respiratory, cardiac bypass, neurosurgery and trauma patients. Responsible for continuous monitoring of vital signs, interpretation of arrythmias, administration of vasopressers and cardiac drugs, maintaining ventilator support, chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring and documentation in medical records. Worked closely with physicians and other nurses. Critical Care Nurse November 1983 to December 1990 – Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. Initially employed in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Cardio-Thoracic Surgical ICU. Last three years as a “float” Critical Care Nurse, rotating into many critical care units including Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Emergency Department, Burn ICU, Bone Marrow ICU, Neurosurgical Transitional Unit, Medical ICU and Coronary Care ICU. Duties included care of critically ill and injured patients – both adult and pediatric, monitoring and assessment of vital signs, maintaining ventilator and vasopresser support, administration of emergency and maintenance drugs, administration of bedside hemodialysis, care of cardiac transplant patients – both adult and pediatric, care of leukemia patients, care of critically burned patients, care of post-cardiac surgical patients – both adult and pediatric, care of critical pediatric surgical patients, care of critically ill neonates, care of trauma patients, IV therapy, supervision of other RNs when charge nurse, training GNs and nurse-interns, assisting physicians in treatment/protocol of critical care patients and documentation in medical records of above-referenced patients. Medical-Surgical Nurse May 1981 to November 1983 – York Hospital, York, PA. Duties included care of oncology patients, cardiac and telemetry patients, administration of patient medications, administration of patient treatments, IV therapy, administration of chemotherapy, administration of EKGs, administration of emergency cardiac drugs, interpretation of telemetry, patient and family pre-op and post-op teaching for open heart surgery, charge nurse duties with supervision of other RNs, LPNs and nurse aides and documentation in medical records of above-referenced patients. Duties included custodial patient care, assisting with vital signs, reporting to RNs, patient transport and assisting RNs with treatments. Duties included supervising a small staff of 17 college students in the production and editing of the campus magazine. First UF campus magazine to be computer-generated.
